The wedding day

Our big day will start with the wedding mass in the morning followed by the wedding reception during the lunchtime. During the mass, we will exchange our wedding vows and confer upon us the sacrament of Matrimony. After the mass, we will move to the reception venue where the celebration continues according to the Javanese tradition. Guests are invited to join both the mass and the reception.

Wedding reception

The first part of the reception is the Panggih (means meeting) ceremony. It is a ritual of meeting between the bride and the groom full of symbolic gestures and accompanied by traditional dances and gamelan music. Most of the local guests start arriving after the end of this ritual since they have seen it already many times. However, everybody is welcome to attend.

During the second part, the bride, the groom, and their parents take their place on the stage and receive congratulations from the guests. Usually, arriving guests first get some food from the buffet. After they finish the food, they go to the stage to congratulate the newlyweds. Dress Code

Ladies

You are welcome to wear a dress which would be appropriate for the wedding in your own country. However, clothing according to the local tradition is more modest than what is usual in Europe. Local women usually wear a decent dress, or some modern version of the traditional dress called kebaya.

Gentlemen

Local men usually wear long pants with long or short-sleeve batik shirt. You are welcome to wear a suit if you want. However, taking hot weather into account, you might as well decide to dress up in a way similar to the local men, i.e., wearing long pants and a shirt.
